Hanna Radon Detection is a family business started by us, two sisters, who got into radon detection through our father and his home inspection business. After becoming aware of the prevalence and dangers of radon, we felt compelled to spread awareness in order to help keep families safe.
Radon is an odorless, colorless, and tasteless gas that is found in all soil. It can enter homes through the foundation and create unsafe indoor levels of radon in the air. When radon is inhaled, the decay products of radon can damage the DNA in your lungs, causing lung cancer. Being the second leading cause of lung cancer behind smoking, radon kills more people per year on average than drunk driving.
The average outdoor level of radon in the air is 0.4 pCi/L and the indoor average is 1.3 pCi/L. The EPA recommends that homes with 4.0 pCi/L or higher have a mitigation system installed to reduce the levels of harmful radon gas. The only way to know the level of radon in your home is by testing.
